STAFF
The Board expresses its appreciation to the staff for the efficient and industrious manner in which they carried out their responsibilities throughout the year.
Over 1968/69 staff numbers increased by 6 per cent to 3,419. Of these 986 were employed in the administration, 1,642 in the branches and 791 in the Note Issue Department, Melbourne.
During the year Mr H.R. Longmuir returned to Australia after serving as Manager of the Reserve Bank in London. He was succeeded in London by Mr A.C. McPherson. Mr T.J. Bartley was appointed Secretary, after a period as an Alternate Executive Director with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Mr F.E. Pearson, Assistant Manager, Sydney Office retired during the year.
Officers of the Bank continued secondments with the International Monetary Fund, the South Pacific Commission, the Bank of Zambia and the Papua and New Guinea Development Bank. The Reserve Bank also seconded officers to the Central Statistical Bureau, Government of Malaysia and the Central Bank of Kenya and an officer of the Bank was appointed Deputy Managing Director of the Papua and New Guinea Development Bank. As part of a programme arranged with other central banks, there was a short-term exchange of officers between the Reserve Bank and the State Bank of Pakistan.
PREMISES
Port Moresby office commenced operations in new premises at Douglas Street on 10 June 1969. Tenders have been called for erecting buildings for the Bank in Perth and Brisbane; both buildings initially will have floors available for letting. The Bank has purchased a site for its Hobart branch and planning for the new premises has commenced.
