Reserve Bank of Australia Annual Report – 1972 Staff
The Board gratefully acknowledge the effective contribution to the work of the Bank maintained by the staff throughout the year.
In January Mr R.A.S. Bywater was appointed General Manager, Note Issue Department, in succession to Mr H.R. Longmuir; Mr Longmuir's interest in the operations of the Department continues as part of his overall role as an Adviser to the Governor. Mr G.R. Gordon, Manager for Western Australia, retired in March and was succeeded by Mr D.R. Richmond. Mr E.S. Eyers, Adviser to the Governor, has assumed responsibility for the broad direction of Personnel Department following the retirement in July 1972 of Mr D.A. Tate, Adviser to the Governor, and Mr L.T. Hinde has been appointed Chief Representative in London in succession to Mr A.C. McPherson, Adviser to the Governor, who is to return to Head Office towards the end of the year. Mr M.J. Phillips has been appointed Manager, Papua New Guinea Department following the retirement in August of Dr P.W.E. Curtin.
The number of staff was held nearly steady during the year and at 30 June 1972 was 3,536 compared with 3,558 at 30 June 1971. Of the total, 1,054 were in the Administration in Sydney, 1,688 in the branches and 794 at Note Issue Department, Melbourne.
