System Availability Statistics 2025

The RBA has committed to providing quarterly operational reliability figures for its payment settlement services. For more details on each of these services and the availability calculations and targets, see About RITS, System Availability.

Notes: Availability is calculated as the amount of time that a system is not experiencing an outage, as a proportion of the core operating hours for that system. Downtime for recent incidents may be subject to revision.

(a) RITS availability is the average of the availability of the component settlement services for Cash Transfers, SWIFT, Austraclear, Batch feeders and LVSS.
(b) Cash Transfers are entered directly to RITS by ESA holders to transfer ES funds between each other. They are typically used for the settlement of interbank overnight cash market transactions and obligations arising from agency arrangements for the low-value clearing systems.
(c) Real-time Gross Settlement (RTGS) of high-value payments exchanged via SWIFT.
(d) RTGS of interbank obligations arising from debt securities settlements in the ASX Austraclear system.
(e) Batch settlement services for property (PEXA and ASXF batches), CHESS, eftpos and Mastercard.
(f) Multilateral net settlement services for other low-value payments clearing systems (e.g. cheques and direct entry).
(g) RTGS of payments exchanged via the NPP.
(h) A non-settlement service that facilitates the transfer of payment clearing files between participants in low-value clearing systems (e.g. cheques and direct entry).

March Quarter

In the March quarter, there were no known incidents affecting RITS availability, however there were two incidents in systems external to RITS that delayed the settlement of some payments.

In February, one incident delayed the delivery of SWIFT settlement messages to RITS for approximately 10 minutes during core operating hours. This incident has not been included in RITS availability calculations; however, this may be subject to revision as root cause analysis is ongoing.

In March, an external network issue caused a 27-minute interruption to the LVSS file delivery service. This incident is not counted as downtime in RITS availability calculations as RITS remained operational throughout this period.
