Media Release Appointment of Chief Information Officer

Charles McHardie AM has been appointed as Chief Information Officer at the RBA, leading our IT function and responsible for the delivery of our technology services.

Charles brings more than 20 years’ leading information and technology functions across government agencies, driving strategic and operational outcomes. Over the past decade, Charles has overseen the technology and digital infrastructure that supports the delivery of government services to millions of Australians, driving significant transformation and innovation, including technology solutions that enabled rapid responses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charles has held senior leadership roles at Services Australia, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Australian Department of Defence. Prior to joining the Australian public service, Charles had a distinguished career in the Royal Australian Navy, where he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for services to Naval Warfare in the fields of ICT and Intelligence.

Charles will commence on 19 October 2026.
