D. Electronic Transfers

(Explanatory Notes)

This return [XLS 45K] collects statistics on the usage of electronic transfers. This also includes transactions initiated via a financial institution's Internet and/or telephone banking site (e.g. BPAY, transfer of funds to accounts at other banks, etc). The reporting period runs to the last day of the calendar month.

The lodgement organisation is responsible for completing the return. The lodgement organisation is the institution at which the payment is lodged by the customer, or a third party processor acting on behalf of the customer.

A credit transfer is a payment initiated by the payer, to debit the payer's account and credit the payee's account; whilst a debit transfer is a pre-authorised payment initiated by the payee, to debit the payer's account and credit the payee's account.
