Industry Proposals for Reform of the ATM System

Since December 2006, the industry has been working on finalising a proposal for reform of the ATM system. The process was initiated by the Australian Bankers’ Association (ABA) in December 2006 when it put a proposal to the Reserve Bank. Since then, the proposal has benefited from a number of industry-wide and bilateral meetings facilitated by the Reserve Bank and a proposal for reform has now been finalised. This was considered by the Payments System Board at its August meeting. A media release on this topic was released on 31 August 2007.
