Media Release Appointment of Assistant Governor (Economic)

The Reserve Bank today announced the appointment of Dr Stephen Grenville to the position of Assistant Governor (Economic). Eleven applications were received for the post (two of which were internal), of whom five were interviewed. The position of Assistant Governor (Economic) was vacated when Ian Macfarlane was appointed Deputy Governor.

Dr Grenville has a first-class honours degree from Sydney University and a Ph.D from the Australian National University. Before joining the Reserve Bank, he worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs, the IMF and the OECD.

Dr Grenville joined the Reserve Bank in 1982 and has held senior positions in the Economics Group, International Department and Domestic Markets Department. He is currently Head of Economic Analysis Department.
