SENIOR APPOINTMENT

The Reserve Bank today announced the appointment of Dr Tony Richards as Head of Economic Research. This follows the decision of Dr David Gruen, the previous Head, to accept a secondment to the Commonwealth Treasury.

Dr Richards, a graduate of the University of Sydney, holds a Masters of Public Administration degree from Harvard and a PhD from George Washington University. He has had extensive experience in economic research and policy analysis at the Reserve Bank and more than 10 years at the IMF, focussing in particular on financial markets and international macroeconomic issues. Prior to this appointment, Dr Richards was Chief Manager, International Markets and Relations at the Reserve Bank.

The appointment will take effect in January 2003.
