SENIOR APPOINTMENT
The Reserve Bank today announced the appointment of Dr David Gruen as
Head of Economic Research Department, one of two Departments in the Bank's
Economic Group. There were applicants from both inside and outside the
Bank for this position, which became vacant as a result of the transfer
of Dr Philip Lowe to the new System Stability Department.
Dr Gruen began his career in science, earning a degree with First Class
Honours from Monash University and a PhD in science from Cambridge University.
In the mid 1980s he switched to economics, and earned a PhD in economics
from ANU. He joined the Bank in 1989, and has held several senior positions
in Economic Group. Since 1995, he has been Chief Economist in Economic
Analysis Department. He has an extensive record of publication on Australian
macroeconomic policy issues, and now takes responsibility for the Bank's
longer term economic research.
