REGISTRY SERVICES
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) maintains the Commonwealth Registry
of Inscribed Stock on behalf of the Australian Government. Core services
include:
- Issuance of securities;
- Transfer and registration of securities;
- Maintenance of ownership records; and
- Distribution of interest payments and redemption proceeds at maturity.
In addition to the above core functions, a number of additional functions
specific to the Commonwealth Registry are also provided, including:
- Management and encashment of physical securities in circulation (some
of which were issued prior to the Second World War);
- Maintenance of records and management of unclaimed monies relating
specifically to Commonwealth Government securities (CGS) holdings; and
- Operation of a small investor
facility, enabling retail investors to access the CGS by purchasing
securities from the RBA’s portfolio at market-related prices.
The RBA also repurchases CGS securities through the same facility.
- The RBA also provides registry services to a number of official foreign
institutions who have Australian Dollar debt issuance programs.
