1. What is RSS?

The abbreviation ‘RSS’ represents: Really Simple Syndication; or RDF (Resource Description Framework) Site Summary; or Rich Site Summary.

RSS is an XML-based (Extensible Markup Language) data file format. An RSS file can contain a summary of Web content or the full text.

2. Why use RSS?

RSS makes it possible for people to keep up-to-date with information on websites in an automated manner that can be fed into special programs or filtered displays.

3. What tools do I need to use RSS?

RSS content can be read using software called an ‘RSS reader’, ‘feed reader’ or an ‘aggregator’, which can be web-based or desktop-based. There are many different RSS readers available on the market.

4. How do I receive RSS feeds from the Reserve Bank of Australia website?

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) website has one RSS feed for its daily exchange rate data. To receive the RBA daily exchange rates RSS feed, locate the orange RSS Image of RSS button. button on our Home page and follow the instructions for your RSS reader. For example:
  1. Copy the URL for the RSS feed you require to your clipboard.
  2. Paste it into the ‘Add Feed…’ or ‘New Feed…’ dialogue box of the RSS feed reader of your choice.
