BRANCH
In addition to the State Offices, the Reserve Bank has one Australian
branch:
The branch has an operational role in banking and registry services which
the State Offices do not have.
As explained in the Bank's Annual
Report for 2000, the number of branches has been reduced over recent
years as a result of the loss of some Commonwealth but mainly State Government
banking business and ongoing technological change which has reduced the
need for decentralised banking, and registry services. The branch closures
also reflect the centralisation of the Bank's note processing and distribution
activities to the National Note Processing Centre located in Craigieburn,
Victoria.
